Sleep When Satiety Can Trigger Stroke - Many people who claim to be sleepy often due to a full stomach after eating food. Although it looks like a natural thing to happen, health experts say that it's good we don't carelessly do it because it can cause an attack stroke. How this can happen?

This surprising fact was revealed in a study published in European Society of Cardiology Congress in 2011. In this study, 1,000 participants were checked for their health conditions. Health experts then find out the relationship between sleep habits with the condition of being full after eating with the risk of stroke. The results of this study are, health experts advise us to wait at least an hour after eating before deciding to go to sleep. By doing so, we can reduce the risk of stroke by 68 percent.

In this study, participants were divided into three groups. The first group consisted of 500 people with healthy conditions, the second group consisted of 250 people with acute coronary syndrome and the third group consisted of 250 people who had had a stroke. For information, acute coronary syndrome is caused by a sudden decrease in blood flow to the heart. Apart from shortness of breath, this condition usually triggers a heart attack.

The researchers then checked their eating and sleeping habits, including sleeping after eating. Gender, age, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking habits, to the history of heart disease from family members are also taken into account here. The result is, each time we delay sleep after eating up to 20 minutes, the risk of stroke can be reduced by 10 percent. In fact, if we do not sleep about 70 minutes to 2 hours after eating, the risk of stroke can be reduced by 76 percent.
